FAQs

What is vaginal estradiol (estrogen) cream?

It is an FDA-approved vaginal treatment that helps relieve genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM). Vaginal cream is made of 0.1% estradiol cream and is bioidentical.

What are Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) symptoms?

84% of women within 6 years of menopause face GSM symptoms, impacting quality of life. Symptoms include vaginal dryness, painful sex, more UTIs, and decreased vaginal health.

How does vaginal estradiol cream work?

Vaginal estrogen is absorbed through the vagina and comes in the form of a cream or a tablet. It directly treats the root cause of symptoms by returning your estrogen levels to normal to restore tissue, blood flow, collagen, and function. Unlike systemic hormone therapy, pills, or patches, it works at the source and specifically on GSM symptoms.

How do you use vaginal estrogen cream?

The cream comes with an applicator that you fill up and insert into your vagina. You can also split the dose of estrogen cream between the inside and entryway to your vagina, including on and around your urethra and clitoris.

Use the cream twice a week. We recommend doing so right before bed, as this allows the cream to absorb.

Can you use vaginal estrogen cream preventatively, and how long can I use it?

Yes! Proactive use of vaginal estrogen prevents symptoms like pain, tearing, dryness, and tissue shrinkage. Its low-dose formula makes it safe for women of any age, with no age restrictions—you can start and stop anytime.

Is vaginal estrogen cream safe?

Low-dose vaginal estrogens are safe for nearly every woman and can be used proactively. It is absorbed locally rather than systemically and doesn’t require the concurrent use of progesterone. Consult your provider to get started.

Can you take vaginal estrogen cream while using hormone therapy (HT)?

Yes! It is possible to take systemic and vaginal hormones together to address menopausal symptoms.

Vaginal estrogen can also be used by women with a history of breast cancer, who may not be able to use systemic HRT.

Should I consider pelvic floor exercises in addition to vaginal estrogen cream?

Pelvic floor exercises help with stress incontinence and sexual discomfort. They strengthen muscles and can complement vaginal estrogen. Find targeted exercises on Evernow's Learn platform.

Why does vaginal estrogen cream have a black box warning?

The FDA's black-box warning on vaginal estrogen cautions against systemic estrogen risks like endometrial cancer, cardiovascular disorders, breast cancer, and dementia. However, many medical societies argue that localized, lower-dose vaginal estrogen lacks evidence linking it to these conditions. Organizations continue to advocate for FDA language updates to represent risks accurately.

What do I need to know about getting vaginal estrogen cream with my membership?

All 3 and 12-month memberships will get you access to a free 90-day supply of vaginal estrogen, for those who medically qualify. The supply continues to renew every 90 days as long as your membership is active.

If you cancel your membership or switch to a one-month membership plan, you will no longer have access to free vaginal estrogen.

How is vaginal estrogen cream different from moisturizers and lubricants?

Lubricants and vaginal moisturizers work differently from vaginal estrogen. While lubricants and moisturizers provide comfort by adding moisture or lubrication, they don’t change the vaginal tissue itself. Vaginal estrogen, on the other hand, activates receptors in the vagina to restore the tissue's natural structure. Since the root cause of GSM (Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause) is a decrease in estrogen, vaginal estrogen treatments are the most effective solution.
